Sedation

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. This practice can range from minimal sedation, where you remain awake but relaxed, to general anesthesia, which puts you in a deep sleep. No matter your level of anxiety, there’s a sedation option to suit your needs.

Types of Sedation

Valium:

  • Valium is a commonly used sedative for dental procedures. It helps patients feel calm and relaxed and can help with any muscle tension or discomfort during the procedure.

Oral Sedation:

  • Oral sedation makes you feel drowsy yet awake and able to respond to your dentist. It can be suitable for patients with mild to moderate anxiety.

Nitrous Oxide:

  • Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask and helps you feel more relaxed. The effects wear off quickly, allowing you to drive home after the procedure.

IV Sedation:

  • IV sedation, which we administer through an intravenous line, works quickly and allows the dentist to adjust the level of sedation as needed. This form is ideal for people with moderate to severe anxiety.

General Anesthesia:

  • For those with extreme dental fears or for extensive procedures, general anesthesia puts you in a deep sleep, ensuring you won’t feel or remember anything during your visit.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Why consider sedation dentistry? Here are some compelling benefits:

Ease and Comfort

Sedation dentistry helps take the edge off any dental procedure. It allows you to comfortably sit through treatments that may otherwise feel long and arduous. You’ll relax while we take care of your dental needs.

Anxiety Reduction

One of the most significant benefits is reducing anxiety. Many people delay or avoid dental care due to fear. Sedation makes it possible for you to receive essential oral care without the crippling anxiety.

Pain Relief

While local anesthetics numb the affected area, sedation doesn’t just address physical discomfort. It helps in managing the psychological aspect of fear related to pain, ensuring a painless and fear-free experience.

Improved Efficiency

When patients are calm and relaxed, dental professionals can work more efficiently. This often means fewer appointments and faster procedures. Sedation can lead to a quicker path to a healthier smile.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

Almost anyone who experiences anxiety about dental visits can benefit from sedation dentistry. It’s particularly beneficial for those who:

  • You have trouble sitting still in the dentist’s chair.
  • Have very sensitive teeth.
  • Require extensive dental work.
  • Have had traumatic dental experiences in the past.
  • Dental Anxiety
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • Time efficiency – Scheduling quicker
  • Strong gag reflex

However, it’s essential to consult with your dentist to determine the best sedation option for your specific situation. Regardless of history or trauma, we want you to feel right at home and in the right place here at Dental Bliss. Our goal is to make you feel right at ease. Many people feel Dental bliss has cured them of their dental anxiety.
