Dental Crowns

Crowns (also called caps) cover the entire portion of the tooth above the gum line and are most appropriate when teeth have been significantly damaged or altered, as they are with fillings, broken teeth, or large cavities.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges act just as they sound. Dental bridges are used to fill the space caused by a missing tooth by creating a bridge using the teeth on either side as an anchor. Teeth on either side of the gap are called abutment teeth, which will need to be prepped and have crowns placed on them to make room for the new artificial tooth (pontic).

What Are Dental Implants?

Advancements in dentistry have created new opportunities and treatments to replace missing teeth. Among the best options for replacing missing teeth are through the use of dental implants. Implants are artificial tooth roots, made from titanium, that provide a strong foundation for the addition of replacement teeth, crowns, bridges, or dentures. Implants are the most effective, long-term solution for those missing one or multiple teeth. No other option will provide you with the natural fit, look, and feel that dental implants provide.

Reasons for Dental Implants

  • Replace missing teeth without damaging surrounding teeth
  • Relieve jaw-joint pain
  • Restore confidence
  • Relieve pain when eating or speaking
  • Restore facial tissue
  • Creates a secure, natural support system for dentures in the future

At Dental Bliss, we have many implant options to fit your exact needs. Please explore our information on Mini Dental Implants and All On 4 Dental Implants & Implant Supported Dentures.

Dental Implant Procedure

The first step in the procedure is your initial consultation. The restorative dentistry specialists at Dental Bliss will examine the status of your oral health and determine if you are a good candidate. Those with good oral health, and a sturdy jaw bone who wish to replace one or few teeth are normally perfect candidates, but you should confer with us before making any decisions. From there, we craft a procedure and timeline that best suits your needs and available options.

Implant placement occurs in stages, and could take multiple visits depending on your needs. The stages of implant surgery are:

  • Removal of damaged tooth
  • Your jaw is prepared for placement. This stage my require the use of bone grafting, which your dental professional will inform you of before the procedure.
  • Once the jaw is prepped for surgery, the titanium tooth root will be implanted into the bone socket of the missing tooth, or teeth.
  • Once completed, you must allow for the implant to heal, and take root in a process called osseointegration. During this time, your jaw bone will heal around the implant creating a strong foundation.
  • Once the jaw has healed, your dentist will place an abutment – which is an extension of the implant that will support the new tooth
  • Once your gums have healed properly, we are able to attach the new crown, or replacement tooth into place.

Depending on the amount of restoration needed, this process can take a few months or even more to complete. This time, however, is mostly devoted to ensuring proper healing in the jaw and gums.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Teeth that have been restored with dental implants are cavity resistant, which means no more decay or future cavities on the treated area. Patients will still be required to brush and floss regularly among the surrounding teeth and gums, however. Implants are the only restorative procedure that allows for the stimulation of bone growth and prevent further bone loss.

Implants have quickly become the #1 option for replacing missing teeth. This is a result of their ability to mimic the look, feel, and support provided by your original teeth. For long-lasting, great looking new teeth there is no better option.

Mini Dental Implants

Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants: solution to secure ill-fitting dentures
The most effective use of mini dental implants is the stabilization of a lower denture. There are approximately 50,000,000 people in the united states who are “edentulous” (literally meaning lacking teeth) who struggle daily with prosthetic devices.

A majority suffer a great deal of discomfort as a result of loose or ill-fitting dentures. Many denture wearers simply withdraw from any type of social engagement as a result of being compelled to wear them. Moreover, it’s not uncommon for family members to complain about a denture wearer’s disagreeable breath as a result of food being trapped and decaying under their denture prosthesis.

Mini Dental Implants- Dental Bliss

Mini dental implants for dentures can help to address and solve all of these social and practical problems. Patients come from all over Tennessee to seek Dr. Atchley’s expertise and gentle touch. Mini dental implants can be placed in our Hermitage dental office with the aid of sedation dentistry if desired.

Mini dental implants vs. Traditional dental implants

Dr. Atchley offers mini dental implants for dentures, specifically as a solution for a specific set of patients to secure the lower denture. We will perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine your condition and the dental implant choices best suited for you.

It is important for those considering mini dental implants to note that these are only indicated for the lower jaw to secure a denture. Mini implants can impart significant limitations on long-term options and should be considered very carefully.

Dr.atchley also offers traditional dental implants that can be used to secure an overdenture. Using traditional implants fewer are needed to provide a stable foundation for the lower denture.

Mini dental implant faq

Can mini dental implants be fit under my existing dentures?

Yes, a patient’s old, loose existing plates can often be used at the same time that the mini implants are placed. If thie existing denture is extremely worn, is over 5 years old or has a poor bite, it may be necessary to make new dentures.

Can mini dental implants be used on the upper denture?

Usually the upper denture is more secure than the lower denture. Retention for the upper can often be remedied by being properly fit. The mini implants are far more successful in the dense lower jaw than in the hollow bone of the upper jaw.

Need a solution for both the upper and lower denture? Explore our All On 4 Dental Implants & Implant Supported Dentures page for more information

What maintenance is there for mini dental implants?

Periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor your mini implants, the fit of your dentures and the health of your gums. The o-rings will get loose and will need to be replaced because they do wear out. The more often that you remove and replace your dentures the more frequently you will need to come in to the office and have the o-rings replaced.

All On 4 Dental Implants & Implant Supported Dentures

All On 4 Dental Implants For Implant Supported Dentures

Millions of Americans are completely edentulous, or have no teeth. This may be the result of poor oral hygiene or the natural wear and tear that comes with age. In either scenario, know that there is a solution; dental implants. Dental Implants are perfect for individuals looking to replace a few missing teeth, but if you are like the Millions of Americans who want to replace ALL of their teeth without the hassle of traditional dentures, than the solution you’re looking for is All on 4 Dental Implants for Implant Supported Dentures.

What are All On 4 Dental Implants?

All on 4 Dental Implants are a far more advanced, durable, and long lasting solution for permanent tooth replacement. Like traditional implants, titanium tooth roots are attached to your jaw line to support anchors in 4 different locations. Those anchors are used to attach custom, implant supported dentures which remove the hassle of denture glue and the daily struggle of keeping them in place. With implant supported dentures, your teeth will feel strong, sturdy, and provide the same structure and durability that real teeth provide. Best of all, they appear completely natural!

What are Implant Supported Dentures?

All On 4 Dental Implants & Implant Supported Dentures

Where traditional dentures adhere to your gum line, implant supported dentures connect to dental implants, allowing you to snap them on and off overnight and when cleaning. Since the implants are fully supported by your jaw, your custom, implant supported dentures will look, feel, and function as if they were your original set.

If you have been dealing with traditional dentures, you already know the embarrassment that can come from slipping dentures, and not being able to laugh, speak, or eat the way you want. Furthermore, you’re well aware of the aggravation caused by ineffective denture adhesives. With implant supported dentures you can:

  • restore proper chewing, allowing you to eat what you want
  • improve speech and confidence in your smile
  • increase comfort with less irritation of gum tissue
  • remove the need and costs associated with denture adhesives
  • utilize exisiting dentures (in some cases)

Sedation Dentistry & Dental Implants

The thought of receiving dental implants is normally followed by thoughts of a long, painful process. At Dental Bliss, our focus is to provide the most comfortable, relaxed experience you’ve ever had at the dentist’s office. Many of our patients come to us describing their fears and anxieties about undergoing procedures such as this, and many of our patients’ fears melt away when they come to see us. With sedation dentistry, and the recent advancements in dental implant procedures, Dental Bliss can provide you with a fast, pain-free experience to get your smile back.

Cost of All On 4 Dental Implants for Implant Supported Dentures

While individual implants are not “cheap,” the All-On-4 treatment is more cost efficient. Though some people attempt to save those painful, or simply bad teeth, in many cases it is more effective to rid your mouth of the unhealthy and start fresh.

Are You a Good Candidate for Implant Supported Dentures?

Are you missing many, or all of your teeth? If so, you may be a great candidate for all on 4 dental implants. In addition, it is necessary to have healthy teeth and gums, as well as an adequate amount of bone density. Good gums and sufficient bone density are compulsory to ensure the implant will withstand chewing and day-to-day use of the mouth. To verify that you are a good candidate, give us a call or schedule your free consultation today!

Dental Crowns & Bridges

Dental Crowns

What are they?
A crown is essentially a cap for a tooth that has been badly damaged or decayed, or as a cover for dental implants. Today, most crowns are made out of porcelain or other natural-looking materials to emulate the look of a natural tooth.

Dental crowns are most used for covering dental implants, but can be applied for many other reasons. Our patients have used dental crowns to restore their smiles in many ways, including: restructuring the size and shape of individual teeth, as a protective cover for cracked or fractured teeth, as a tool to attach dental bridges, strengthening teeth that have been weekend from decay, covering teeth with root canals, and to hide unattractive fillings.

The Procedure
We encourage anyone interested in dental crowns to contact us today to schedule your initial consultation to establish your needs and aesthetic goals. During your first visit at Dental Bliss, our staff will create molds from your existing smile in order to customize the crowns for a perfect fit. This mold will be used to create a temporary crown, which will need to remain in place until your permanent crowns have been crafted. This normally takes no longer than a week or two.

When it’s time to come back, your temporary crown will come off, the tooth underneath will be cleaned, and the permanent crown will be placed. When placing permanent crowns, we take special care to ensure that your bite and spacing is perfectly aligned with your aesthetic goals.

Dental Bridges

What are they?
Dental bridges act just as they sound. Dental bridges are used to fill the space caused by a missing tooth by creating a bridge using the teeth on either side as an anchor. Teeth on either side of the gap are called abutment teeth, which will need to be prepped and have crowns placed on them to make room for the new artificial tooth (pontic).

Reasons For Bridges:

  • Close gaps between teeth.
  • Keep teeth in place and stop them from shifting.
  • Replace temporary dental device (e.g. partial denture).
  • Restore aesthetics
  • Improve function

The Procedure
If you have a space in your smile caused by one or more missing teeth, please contact us today to schedule a consultation so that we can establish the best treatment options for you, and learn the aesthetic goals you have. During the first appointment, teeth on either side of the missing tooth will undergo the same dental crown procedure as seen above. This is to allow room for the new tooth, and ensures the best looking result. Once these teeth have been shaped to your goals, we will create molds of the treatment area to use when creating your new tooth and permanent bridge. However, many of our patients are please to learn that we offer a temporary bridge for you to use while the permanent restoration is being created. This means you get to walk out of the first appointment with a better looking smile!

When your permanent bridge is prepared and ready, you will return for your second appointment. Our dentists will place your new bridge, and fine tune the aesthetics based of your requests. Once the fit is perfect, we cement the bridge into place!

Sedation Dentistry
Nervous about coming to see us? Don’t worry, a majority of our patients come to see us for our ability to make each and every visit a comfortable and relaxing one. With spa like amenities and caring staff, everyone feels at home. At Dental Bliss, we use a variety of sedation dentistry techniques to offer pain free appointments.
